Our Story

1970

For as long as I can remember I loved working with my hands. I would get in trouble for using power tools when I was 6 or 7 years old. By the time I was a teenager I was building massive tree houses and skateboard ramps around the neighborhood. Anyone who knows me knows that construction isn’t just what I do — it’s who I am.

1992

In 1992, much to my parents’ chagrin, I dropped out of college and started building decks and fences. I founded Sequoia Deck and Fence and quickly built a reputation for creating exceptional projects throughout New Orleans.

2005

When Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans in 2005, it created a major shortage of fence supplies. To adapt, we began purchasing lumber directly from suppliers. At my wife’s suggestion, we started selling materials to friends and colleagues in the fencing industry. Within a few years, our retail sales surpassed our installation work. That’s when we made the decision to transition fully into becoming a lumberyard.

2008

In 2008, we built a new facility focused on serving the fencing, decking, and pergola industry. As demand for Western Red Cedar grew, we realized we needed to mill our own lumber to quickly and efficiently fulfill customer orders. Investing in milling capabilities allowed us to control quality from start to finish.

2019

By 2019, an equity firm took notice of our success and made an offer to purchase the business. After much consideration, we decided it was the right time to sell and enjoy retirement.

2022

Retirement during COVID was good to us, but it didn’t take long to realize we missed the business. Old customers and friends kept encouraging us to open another lumberyard and get back to doing what we love.

2024

In 2024, we purchased property just five miles from our original location and built a new lumberyard, complete with two Baker resaws to maximize our production capacity. On April 15, 2024, Crescent City Forest Products officially opened its doors!

This chapter is even more special because our son, Aiden, and our oldest daughter, Sophie, have joined the business. Their talent and passion for the industry may even exceed my own.
